Zermatt photo spots – as if made for Instagram

Zermatt nestles against the foot of the majestic Matterhorn – impressive mountain and undeniably, photo subject no 1 of Switzerland. However, where exactly does this landmark mountain present its best side? Find all the top photo spots in and around Zermatt here.

The valley station of the Gornergrat Railway is located right opposite the railway station. The dark orange train of the Gornergrat Railway is practically one of the fixtures of the mountain village and a very popular photo subject in itself. The backdrop changes constantly: First, the cog railway winds its way through the village, then it passes the historical Riffelhaus and finally leads up to the Gornergrat at 3,089 m a.s.l.

A perfect photo spot

The next photo spot is ready and waiting on arrival at the summit: a breathtaking view of the Gorner Glacier and the Matterhorn. Walking the 360° Loop Gornergrat, an easy 20-minute panoramic hike at the summit, is the best way to savour the scenery. The perfect “Horu” (Matterhorn) picture is definitely waiting for you here somewhere.

On the way back down into the valley, you shouldn’t miss a stopover at the station Rotenboden. From here, a short walk leads to the famous Lake Riffelsee – the ultimate photo spot of Zermatt. No other lake reflects the Matterhorn so beautifully on its smooth surface.

An all-around unforgettable experience!

Back in Zermatt, a gondola lift is waiting to take you to your next destination, the “Matterhorn glacier paradise”. At the “Trockener Steg” (dry landing stage), you will change to the new and glamorous Crystal Ride.

Why is this gondola a perfect photo spot? Not only does this novelty delight passengers with extra comfortable seats and large panoramic windows, it also has four cabins holding a real surprise ready: In these cabins, beautifully adorned with Swarovski crystals, the opaque glass floor clears up after three minutes’ ride – and opens the view onto the spectacular glacier scape 170 metres below. Of course, the Matterhorn also looks so close as if within reach – very impressive: An all-around unforgettable experience!
